Diagnostic Testing for Bladder Issues

You don’t have to live with bladder problems.

The First Step to Recovery

At The Bladder Clinic, we begin by evaluating your individual symptoms and medical history, followed by detailed diagnostic testing to rule out urinary tract infections, bladder stones or bladder tumors. Our collaborative approach allows us to refine your diagnosis and develop an effective treatment plan.

Medical History

We begin with a comprehensive health history. Our doctors review your health history and the specifics of your bladder pain.

Urinalysis

Urine is examined for signs of blood and/or infection. You can expect to have a urinalysis on your first visit, before any procedures, and if there is any change in symptoms that concern you.

PCR Testing

PCR testing is a fast and highly accurate way to identify even more bacteria than a traditional urine culture, and allows for the most accurate diagnosis.

Urodynamic Evaluation

Urodynamic tests measure how well your bladder stores and releases urine, the nerve and muscle function of your bladder, the pressure around and in your bladder, and how much and how fast your urine flows.

Cystoscopy

There are different phenotypes (varieties) of interstitial cystitis (IC): ulcerative and non-ulcerative.  Using a special camera, the doctor will look inside your bladder.  If you have symptoms and the cystoscopy shows ulcers, then the diagnosis is fairly certain to be IC/BPS. A cystoscopy can also help diagnose problems such as infection, narrowing, blockage or bleeding.  It can also rule out cancer.
